KY-8 Community Votes Spoke Design Concept for Next 4th Street Bridge

The community has weighed in on the next 4th Street Bridge design and function. Two open houses were held, and 1,400+ surveys were completed where respondents chose Spoke as the highest-ranked concept.

575+ petitions were collected with over 99% support for several key design elements: two driving lanes with lower speeds for safety, a smaller footprint and lower environmental impact, an embedded rail or sacrificial slab lane for future streetcar expansion, a 16-foot shared-use path for pedestrians and cyclists, a total teardown and rebuild for faster and lower-cost construction, and an iconic bridge design with plate girder drive lanes and a cable-stayed pathway. The community desires a sustainable and iconic bridge that promotes economic development and encourages travel options outside of automobiles.

Next steps to make this a reality.

  1. Hub + Weber is finalizing the design of Spoke for distribution by March 1, 2023.

  2. A resolution supporting the bridge concept and key design elements is being crafted for Covington and Newport Commissions to consider in early March, 2023. We will need your support at these meetings.

  3. Resolutions, Final Spoke Design, and Public Comment to be delivered to KYTC by April 15, 2023.

Sign the petition and we will keep you informed about next action steps to make the Spoke concept a reality.
